Is massage safe?
Most people can benefit from massage and it is generally regarded as completely safe. However, massage may not be appropriate if you have:
- Bleeding disorders or take bloodthinning medication
- Burns, open or healing wounds
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Fractures
- Severe osteoporosis
- Severe thrombocytopenia
Please communicate with your therapist if you have any of these conditions or if you have any allergies to substances that could be in massage oil or lotion.
It is a good idea to discuss the pros and cons of massage with your doctor, especially if you are pregnant or have cancer or unexplained pain.
